School Demo

A piece of Salida history is no longer, after workers completed demolition of the old Salida High School in July. The annex, pictured here, was quickly built in 1962 to replace the former high school which had burned down, and is being replaced by a brand new school several blocks south of the current location. In November 2010 voters approved a $17.9 million bond along with a $12.5 million Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant to build the new school.

The 1922 Kesner building, which is on the State Register of Historic Properties, will remain intact and will be renovated as the administrative offices.

The new school is on schedule to open for the 2012-2013 school year, and a ribbon cutting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Aug. 10. Photo by Mike Rosso
