Winners repeat in Crystal Mountain Drama Contest

Brief by Central Staff

Drama – August 2001 – Colorado Central Magazine

There were two repeat winners this year in the annual one-act drama contest sponsored by the Crystal Mountain Center for the Performing Arts in Westcliffe and open to all Colorado playwrights.

Both Isobel McQuiston of Evergreen and Donald J. Grubb of Howard, this year’s first-place winners, were first-place finishers last year.

McQuiston’s 2001 winner is “Gladys,” about a man and woman who have trouble being emotionally honest with each other, even though they’ve been together for years. Grubb’s play, “The Elk Hunters,” is about four men who maintain their friendship with an annual hunting trip — until three of them discover that the fourth has been taking advantage of them.

Honorable mention awards went to David Hall of Fort Collins for “Garage Sale” and Stephen J. Cribari of Denver for “Listening to Mozart.”

The two first-place plays will be presented on July 27 and 28 at the Jones Theater in Westcliffe. For more information, call 719-783-3004, or go to www.crystalmtn.org on the web.
