My wife and I were privileged to ride this train when it went beyond Salida. We took it to Glenwood Springs, stayed overnight, and rode the California Zephyr back to Denver.

We remember being impressed by the fact that the train was in no hurry at all. After a comparatively short stop at Colorado Springs there was a twenty-minute stop at Pueblo and a lengthy pause at the bottom of the Royal Gorge. Both drinks and food were served in a car manned by a single attendant. The train was not crowded and he took pleasure in having us as customers. It took us until eight in the evening to get to Glenwood. In these days when everything is so hurried, it’s a shame that relaxing trips like this are no longer available,
