Do it the American way

Letter from Edward H. Hawkins

Editors:

I have an answer for T.L. Livermore of Gunnison with respect to his rant “A message for the CO GOP” which appeared in your June 2003 edition, complaining about the way the GOP redistricted.

Here’s my answer. I didn’t much like the way the Democrats in the Colorado Legislature impeded the redistricting a few years back which enabled a Democrat- biased judge to redistrict in favor of the Democratic Party.

So, instead of whining and complaining about this usurpation of the right of the Legislature to redistrict, I went out and worked for the election of more Republicans, sent money, and generally helped elect a Republican majority that would do it properly, the way I wanted it done.

Now that a majority of Colorado citizens — along with me — have chosen to elect a majority of Republicans who can now fulfill their duty, I suggest that T. L. Livermore go out and do the same for the Democratic Party and quit ranting about a mis-perceived injustice.

Every ten years the Legislature is required to redistrict. It’s called politics. Republicans do it their way; Democrats do it their way. It’s the American Way!
