2008-15 – Bill Convery, State Coordinator, Colorado HIstory Day, former Professor at University of Colorado Denver.

2002-07 – Modupe Labode, Former Chief Historian at the Colorado Historical Society.

1991-2001 – David Fridjtof Halaas, author of “Halfbreed: The Remarkable True Story of George Bent – Caught Between the Worlds of the Indian and the White Man,” Former Chief Historian at the Colorado Historical Society.

1966-71 – Maxine Benson, a Colorado native and an independent historian and author of “Martha Maxwell, Rocky Mountain Naturalist.”

1963-66 – Harry E. Kelsey Jr., received his PhD from DU while State Historian; left to become State Historian of Michigan.

1954-63 – Agnes Wright Spring was a journalist, writer and historian from Wyoming and was the state historian for Colorado and Wyoming, at different times. She was the first woman to hold the position of State Historian and the only person to serve as state historian of more than one state.

1924-54 – LeRoy Hafen, Historian, first State Historian designated by that title, author of 5-vol History of Colorado (1927) and numerous additional books and articles.
