No trespass problems yet

Democrat, Lincoln and Bross in the Mosquito Range closed by private land? (Aug. 2005, p. 9, “DO NOT ENTER”). That’s news to me. When I climbed them, plus nearby Buckskin Mt., a few years ago, the only signs I saw were on some old mines by the road up the valley posted “No Trespassing.” They obviously applied to the mine properties, not the road.

While Culebra Peak is well known to have access problems — the Taylor Ranch on the way has been sold which might change this — this is the first I’ve heard about such issues for the Mosquito Range. I also climbed Sherman, Sheridan and Horseshoe, farther S. behind Leavick, with no problems.

Concerning Leadville under “Central Attractions,” you left out the new Mineral Belt Trail, http://www.mineralbelttrail.com/. Paved, “accessible” and 11.6 miles long, this bike path weaves around Leadville’s picturesque old mines. The web site doesn’t have much information but does show a map, a loop past the town and south.
