Gunnison ranchers now selling directly to public

Brief by Central Staff

Agriculture – September 2005 – Colorado Central Magazine

Several ranchers in the Gunnison Country have started selling directly to the public. The Gunnison Valley Beef Producers brand was formed last year, and its three brands are Jack’s Cabin Graziers, Mill Creek Natural Beef, and Spring Creek Natural Beef.

The producers have agreed to meet certain criteria: no hormones, no antibiotics in any feed, and a free-range environment on local pastures. The beef is already available in some Gunnison restaurants.

Customers have a choice of 100% grass-fed, or grass-fed and finished on grain. Customers also have a choice of quarter, half, or whole beef, and can specify cutting and wrapping, such as the thickness of steaks and the number of services per package. Frozen packaged meat will be delivered from October until next March.

Mill Creek (www.millcreeknaturalbeef.com) also sells smaller quantities, aimed at people who either want a sampler, or don’t have enough freezer space.

If you’re interested in filling your freezer, you can reach Spring Creek at 970-641-3633, Jack’s Cabin at 970-641-5023, and Mill Creek at 970-641-6455.
