Hal Walter’s contributions

Letter from Robert Lawson

Hal Walter – June 2004 – Colorado Central Magazine

Editors:

I enjoy reading the magazine, specifically any articles relating to Colorado history, railroads, mining, and ranching. Also of particular interest to me are Hal Walter’s contributions. You see, my parents built (or had built) the place he owns east of Westcliffe, so I can literally picture his descriptions of the local surroundings. My brother and I have good memories of countless hours exploring that area.

After graduating from Custer County High School in the mid 1980’s I completed a four year hitch in the Air Force and have since lived in many parts of the country working in the aviation industry, ending up here in Wichita (the self proclaimed “Air Capitol”) for the last 9 years.

Since leaving home I have been torn between my love of Southern Colorado and a passion for aviation, I just haven’t figured out how to combine the two on a permanent basis. So, in between our regular visits to Colorado, I’ll continue to rely on Hal to bring me back home every month.

Please pass along to Hal that the next time I am in the area, I’ll stop by and say hello. Also, the fourth weekend of July is the Rocky Mountain International Harvester Rendezvous in Salida (Chaffee County fairgrounds will be full of vintage IH vehicles), look for a burgundy red Scout with Kansas plates exploring the area jeep trails.

Best regards,

Robert Lawson
